22-7-2023 (HONG KONG) Respecting the deceased and considering the feelings of their loved ones should always be a priority, but recent events in Hong Kong have highlighted the need for sensitivities in a digital age.
A couple of videos recently went viral on Facebook after being shared in the group on9仔女同盟會 (on9限定) 3.0. The footage captured a shocking incident where a youth in Hong Kong was seen disrespecting the dead at a cemetery. In the videos, the young man can be heard insulting and mocking the deceased right in front of their graves, exhibiting a complete lack of empathy and decency.
The man’s disrespectful behavior was deeply troubling. He callously told the deceased to “go die,” displaying a shocking lack of regard for the sanctity of life and the emotions of grieving families. To make matters worse, he also exhibited audacious rudeness by touching and interfering with items around the graves in a disrespectful manner.
Unfortunately, the man’s disrespect was not limited to the deceased alone. As he moved away from the graves, he proceeded to mock the mini sculptures of gods and deities nearby. His insensitive remarks towards others’ cultures and beliefs were deeply offensive and reflected a lack of understanding and empathy.
Making offensive and derogatory statements towards the sculptures, he proclaimed, “I only trust Jesus, I don’t trust rubbish!” Furthermore, he found a picture of an old man amidst the sculptures, presumably a deceased individual, and proceeded to mock the elderly figure, suggesting that he should stay there with the gods before putting the frame back.
