21-7-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A video of a “model” employee bravely catching a rat has been circulating online, highlighting the challenges faced by restaurant workers dealing with pests. The short video, uploaded by the user with the title “Cleanliness. Hygiene,” shows a large rat climbing up a wall in a restaurant. A male staff member wearing a red shirt quickly enters the frame, grabs the rat with his bare hands, and rushes towards the kitchen as customers cheer and record the event.
At the time of the incident, there were no customers sitting along the wall where the rat was climbing. However, a table nearby was filled with food, leading to speculation that the customers had been scared away by the rodent. The restaurant’s signboard “World’s Number One Pork” is visible in the background of the video, and the bilingual menu suggests the incident took place in Malaysia. Some social media users joked about the “fresh ingredients” of the restaurant.
The suddenness of the event left some bewildered, with one commenter asking, “What just happened?” Others made light of the situation, saying, “Catch it and braise it,” “They keep cats to catch rats, no need to worry,” “Wait a moment, our restaurant is currently catching and cooking the dishes,” and “The kitchen doesn’t have enough ingredients.”
Some expressed concern for the employee’s safety, with one person commenting, “A rat bite could lead to serious health problems.”
