Fortunately, no injuries were reported. In an official statement released on Wednesday, U.S. Secret Service Spokesperson Steve Kopek clarified that the driver had collided with a security bollard at a White House checkpoint and emphasized that the actions “were not targeted towards the White House Complex.”
The driver involved in the crash has been identified as Roy Bowden, aged 48. According to Kopek, Bowden was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and unlawful entry.
Following the incident, security around the White House was heightened while investigations into the cause of the crash commenced.
This is not the first instance of a crash involving security barriers near the White House. In May 2022, two juveniles sustained injuries when they crashed a stolen car into a concrete security barrier on the western side of the White House grounds, as reported by the Secret Service.
