19-11-2024 (BEIJING) A vehicle crashed outside a primary school in China’s Hunan province on Tuesday, leaving multiple pupils injured in what marks the latest in a series of violent incidents to shake the nation this month.
The incident, which occurred during school hours, saw numerous children caught up in the crash, according to state broadcaster CCTV. While the exact number of casualties remains under investigation, social media footage verified against known images of the school showed chaotic scenes with children fleeing in panic and several individuals lying injured on the ground.
Eyewitness videos also captured the apparent aftermath, depicting an angry crowd confronting and assaulting a bloodied man beside an SUV, though authorities have yet to confirm whether the collision was intentional.
This latest incident follows two recent mass casualty events that have stunned the nation. Just over a week ago, in what became China’s deadliest attack in ten years, a man identified by police as Mr Fan killed 35 people and injured more than 40 others in Zhuhai when he drove his vehicle into crowds. Police attributed that attack to the perpetrator’s anger over divorce-related property disputes.
