6-7-2023 (CHICAGO) In a touching display of familial pride and accomplishment, a pilot for United Airlines made a heartfelt announcement before co-piloting a flight with her mother. Brooke Patterson Van Howe stood in front of Gate 76A at the United Airlines terminal, holding a microphone to address the passengers who would be flying with her as the First Officer to Newark this afternoon. “Today is a very special flight for us, perhaps the most special in my aviation career,” she shared with a smile.
Turning her gaze towards the woman standing beside her, also donning a blue pilot uniform, Brooke added, “You see, this is Captain Brenda Patterson… She is not just my role model… She is my mother. Ever since my first day of flight school, flying with my mom has been a dream of mine, and today that dream comes true.”
As Brooke finished speaking, the passengers in attendance erupted in applause, expressing their admiration for the remarkable mother-daughter duo. Together, they retrieved their luggage from the terminal and made their way towards the aircraft.
