30-3-2024 (NEW YORK) A United Airlines Boeing 787 flight, en route from Tel Aviv to Newark, was compelled to perform an emergency landing at New York Stewart International Airport following reports of ‘extreme turbulence’ causing injuries among passengers on board.
The flight, carrying 312 passengers, was diverted to New York Stewart International Airport after encountering severe turbulence on Friday. Among the passengers, seven were transported to hospital with minor injuries, while another 15 received on-site medical attention for injuries sustained during the turbulent flight, as confirmed by New Windsor EMS.
Sources indicate that ‘high winds’ were the primary cause of the turbulence leading to the emergency landing. According to News 12 Westchester, New Windsor EMS reported that the United Airlines flight encountered strong winds during its approach to Newark from Tel Aviv at approximately 6:30 pm.
Passengers on the flight reported experiencing symptoms such as nausea, while some complained of chest pains attributed to the turbulence. Fortunately, no severe injuries have been reported among the passengers.
In response to the incident, an FAA statement clarified, “United Airlines Flight 85 landed safely at New York Stewart International Airport around 6:45 p.m. local time on Friday, March 29, after the crew reported a passenger medical emergency.” The statement added, “The Boeing 787 departed from Tel Aviv and was en route to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline for additional information.”
