29-11-2023 (JAKARTA) In a poignant and unusual ceremony, an Indonesian woman named Tarisa tied the knot with her love, Edi, surrounded by family, including the remains of her late father. The unique wedding unfolded at the bride’s residence in Kolaka Regency in southeast Sulawesi, garnering attention in Indonesian media.
The deceased father, H. Rusli, adorned in a white shroud, was positioned beside the couple during the ceremony, with a male relative stepping in to give Tarisa away.
Herlina, the bride’s aunt, shared details of the emotional event, stating, “Yes, poor thing, they were married next to the body of (the bride’s) deceased father.”
The unexpected circumstance arose as Tarisa’s father was supposed to give her away on what should have been the happiest day of her life. Tragically, he passed away suddenly the day before the scheduled wedding. According to a neighbor named Erlina, Rusli collapsed after performing his Isyak prayers, citing a history of hypertension and kidney disease.
The decision to hold the wedding next to the father’s remains was made at the request of the bride’s family, honoring Rusli’s strong desire to witness his daughter’s marriage. Herlina explained that the father had eagerly anticipated the wedding, actively participating in the preparations until his untimely death.
Following the emotional ceremony, the father was promptly laid to rest at a nearby cemetery.
