15-1-2025 (BANGKOK) Two Chinese nationals who vanished during their Thailand holiday have been successfully rescued and repatriated to China, following a swift international operation involving Thai and Chinese authorities.
Miss Wu Jiaqi, 21, from Jiangsu Province, and her companion Miss Liu Luying had sparked serious concerns after their sudden disappearance in Bangkok earlier this month. The pair, who had arrived in Thailand as tourists, were safely recovered and returned to China on 13 January.
The incident began when Wu, daughter of a prominent Jiangsu businessman, arrived in Thailand with Liu, whom she had met online, in the early hours of 6 January. After checking into a Bangkok hotel, Wu messaged her mother about their arrival. Despite her mother’s explicit warnings about avoiding Myanmar, to which Wu had responded “I don’t dare to go to Myanmar,” all contact with the young women ceased around 3 pm the same day.
Wu’s father immediately flew to Thailand on 7 January and reported his daughter’s disappearance to authorities at Suvarnabhumi Airport Provincial Police Station at approximately 11:35 pm. Thai police launched an immediate investigation, which revealed the women had travelled to an undisclosed third country.
Through coordinated efforts between Thai law enforcement and Chinese authorities, both women were successfully located and rescued. The operation culminated in their safe return to China on 13 January.
Speaking after the rescue, Wu’s father expressed profound gratitude to Thai authorities and citizens. “I am deeply thankful to the Thai police, government officials, and all Thai people who assisted in locating my daughter,” he said.
