22-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) Two men were hauled before the courts on Wednesday following a violent assault involving an iron rod in Singapore’s Geylang neighbourhood, with police making swift arrests within nine hours of the incident being reported.
The accused, aged 48 and 61, were charged with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon after allegedly attacking a 26-year-old man during a confrontation that unfolded in Geylang Lane 24.
According to police reports, authorities responded to an emergency call at approximately 7:35 am on Monday after receiving reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim had sustained injuries from an alleged attack with an iron rod, which was subsequently recovered from the scene.
The victim was conveyed to hospital in a conscious state for treatment of his injuries, whilst Bedok Police Division officers launched an immediate investigation into the assault.
Through rapid deployment of resources and investigative work, officers identified and apprehended both suspects before nightfall on the same day, demonstrating the force’s commitment to swift justice.
The defendants appeared before Singapore’s courts on Wednesday to face charges of causing hurt with a dangerous weapon with intent. Under Singapore’s strict criminal code, if found guilty, the pair could face severe penalties including up to seven years’ imprisonment, caning, a substantial fine, or any combination thereof.
