10-9-2023 (BANGKOK) A fishing boat capsized in the waters off Koh Ael island, located south of Phuket, on Sunday, resulting in two crew members going missing, according to the Region 3 Thailand Maritime Enforcement Command Centre (Thai-MECC).
The Thai-MECC Region 3 received a distress call regarding the incident at 1:20 p.m., alerting them to the situation.
The fishing boat, carrying a total of four crew members, capsized approximately 2.2 nautical miles off Koh Ael island. While two of the crew managed to swim to safety and reach the shore, the other two individuals remain missing.
In response to the emergency, a patrol boat named Tor 272 was swiftly dispatched for a search and rescue mission. Additionally, nearby fishing boats were alerted through a radio network to assist in the search effort and report any findings to the Thai-MECC.
As of the latest update, the search operation is still in progress as authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing crew members.
