(BANGKOK) – Thai police announced on Thursday the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in the death of a 48-year-old Taiwanese man found tied up and beaten in his hotel room in Bangkok’s Bang Na district. The suspects, currently in custody at Bang Na Police Station, are under questioning, with charges yet to be filed, according to Metropolitan Police’s investigation unit commander, Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradet Thammasuthee.
The victim’s body was discovered by hotel staff on Thursday morning, showing signs of a struggle within the ransacked room. His limbs were bound, and his face was wrapped with plastic tape. Although the cause of death remains undetermined, initial reports suggest the man may have been deceased for approximately eight hours.
Personal belongings, including a computer and mobile phone, were reportedly missing from the room, while two safes left behind were seized as evidence. Hotel staff revealed that the victim had checked in alone on Tuesday, and CCTV footage captured two men entering the room the night before the discovery. Another man was observed on the same floor as the victim’s room. It is unclear at this point if the individuals in the footage are the same as those currently in police custody.
Investigators, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradet, are working to establish the purpose of the victim’s visit to Thailand and explore any potential links between his death and his prior conviction for human trafficking and fraud in Taiwan.
