24-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) A dramatic scene unfolded in the Boon Keng neighbourhood early Monday (24 June) when a rental car mounted the kerb and ended up on the grass verge, allegedly after evading a police roadblock. The driver and two passengers then fled the scene, but they were swiftly apprehended by the authorities on suspicion of drug-related offences.
According to Member of Parliament (MP) Heng Shan Beng, the incident began when the vehicle, a car-sharing service BlueSG rental, was being pursued by the police along Boon Keng Road in the early hours of the morning. Sharing a photograph of the abandoned car on the grass verge, Heng confirmed that the vehicle was being towed away.
Additional images circulated on social media platforms, such as the SG Road Vigilante – SGRV Facebook page, depicted the BlueSG car nestled on the grassy area before daybreak, with its front passenger door left wide open. The incident’s location was identified as the intersection of Boon Keng Road and Bendemeer Road, near the Dignity Kitchen food court.
In a chilling scene captured by one of the photographs, a male suspect was shown sitting on the ground with his arms behind his back, potentially handcuffed, while being attended to by at least four police officers.
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), as quoted by The Straits Times, the incident unfolded during a roadblock operation in Whampoa East. At approximately 4.55 am, a car halted at the roadblock before abruptly reversing and attempting to flee along Boon Keng Road, ultimately abandoning the vehicle.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of evading the roadblock and driving under the influence of drugs or intoxicating substances. His two passengers, an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, were also apprehended on suspicion of drug-related offences. The teenage girl was conscious when taken to the hospital for medical attention.
MP Heng Shan Beng reassured residents in the area that there was no threat to their security stemming from this incident, expressing gratitude to the police for their swift action in apprehending the suspects.
While the alleged drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, the police investigation into this dramatic incident remains ongoing.
