3-7-2023 (MANILA) A 53-year-old tricycle driver was arrested in Quezon City, Philippines for allegedly raping a senior high school passenger at a memorial park, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Monday. The police apprehended suspect Edwin Lau on July 1 after receiving a report from the victim’s mother.
The victim’s friend, who was also a witness, flagged down Lau’s tricycle and instructed him to bring the 17-year-old victim to a convenience store in Barangay San Bartolome, Novaliches. However, Lau convinced the victim to go with him somewhere so he could pick something up, driving her to the Holy Cross Cemetery instead of her intended destination. He allegedly molested and sexually abused her, and when she tried to defend herself, he repeatedly punched her before raping her.
The victim’s mother learned about the incident and reported it to the police, leading to Lau’s arrest. Both the suspect and the victim were brought to different hospitals for physical examination. The victim was turned over to the Women and Children Protection Center for the case’s investigation and proper disposition. Lau is currently under police custody, and the case is ongoing.
