18-7-2024 (BANGKOK) A calamitous morning rush hour turned deadly on Borommaratchachonnani Road as a multi-vehicle pileup claimed the lives of two horses and brought traffic to a standstill. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:20 am, unfolded opposite the HomePro shopping centre on the inbound lane to Nakhon Pathom in Tambon Song Khanong, Amphoe Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom province.
The grim scene revealed a chain reaction collision involving three vehicles: a van, a saloon car, and a pickup truck. All sustained significant frontal damage, bearing testament to the forceful impact of the crash. The van, bearing the registration plate 1 Nor Khor 5372 Bangkok, bore the brunt of the collision, with two passenger vehicles wedged against its rear.
Among the wreckage, a blue Ford with the license plate 1 Kor Kor 9914 Bangkok was found, its female driver injured and swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Adjacent to it, a green Toyota Corona, registered as 3 Hor 2381 Bangkok, displayed extensive frontal damage.
However, the most heart-rending aspect of the accident lay in the middle of the road: two dead horses
Weerayut Lertnathee, the 55-year-old driver of the green Toyota, recounted the harrowing sequence of events. “I was driving to work, following the van,” he explained. “Suddenly, the van collided with a horse. I then struck another horse forcefully before ramming into the van’s rear. Another car then crashed into the back of the van as well.”
As authorities scrambled to piece together the circumstances leading to this unusual incident, workers from the nearby Preda Garden Home – a restaurant and café featuring various animals – came forward. They identified the dead horses as belonging to their establishment, both male and aged between 10-11 years.
A spokesperson for Preda Garden Home shared that the owner, known only as Khun Ning, aged 30, was devastated by the loss. They added that the horses were typically docile and kept in enclosures at the restaurant. “We’re at a loss to explain how they escaped and ended up on the road,” the spokesperson admitted.
