1-5-2024 (SINGAPORE) Last Friday (26 April), the peaceful ambience along River Valley Road was shattered by the presence of police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicles, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao. Witnesses observed officers scouring the area and retrieving items from the riverbank, hinting at a possible incident of someone falling into the water.
Subsequent investigations confirmed the worst—a woman, aged 33, had met an untimely demise in the river. Though the circumstances surrounding her death remain under scrutiny, authorities have ruled out foul play based on initial findings.
The victim, identified as Dang Hoang Ly Na, hailed from a remote village in Vietnam, as per Shin Min Daily News. Despite grappling with health issues, including lung ailments, Dang Hoang made the journey to Singapore just a week before her tragic end. Her purpose? To seek employment in the nocturnal entertainment sector, aiming to provide for her elderly parents and her 11-year-old daughter back home.
Undertaker Roland Tay, entrusted with the somber duty of arranging her funeral, expressed his commitment to facilitating her final journey back to Vietnam. He underscored the significance of allowing her daughter the chance to bid farewell to her mother, irrespective of the family’s financial constraints.
With a family representative arriving in Singapore to oversee the necessary arrangements, preparations are underway to repatriate Dang Hoang’s remains to her homeland. Mr. Tay anticipates that the solemn process will be completed in the coming days, ensuring closure for her grieving loved ones in Vietnam.
