21-1-202 (BANGKOK) Authorities have successfully identified all 23 victims who lost their lives in the devastating fireworks factory explosion in Muang district last Thursday. The remains have been returned to their grieving families after meticulous forensic examination, involving fingerprint and DNA analysis.
Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet reported that the last missing body part, a human leg, was discovered in a nearby pond during the investigation. The water in the ponds was drained to ensure the recovery of all human remains and to check for chemical residues.
The families of the victims are expected to complete the solemn process of receiving the bodies or their remains by Saturday, according to Pol Gen Kittirat.
Simultaneously, Papinwit Laongkaew, Chief of the Suphan Buri Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, highlighted the ongoing efforts to provide swift assistance to the affected areas. The water quality in the vicinity is under scrutiny to prevent contamination.
A meeting among state agencies concluded the operation results, focusing on initial assistance, body identification, and evidence compilation for compensation to the bereaved families. While the assistance center at Wat Rong Chang has closed, various agencies, including the police and Salakhao Tambon Administration Organisation, continue to offer support at the location.
The religious funeral rites for all 23 victims will take place in their respective hometowns. The bodies are allocated to various temples for the final ceremonies, marking the end of a tragic incident that shook the community.
