29-11-2023 (BANGKOK) A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday evening as an explosion occurred at a longan plantation, resulting in the deaths of three workers. Two women, one Thai and one from Myanmar, were killed instantly by the blast, while a male worker from Myanmar succumbed to his injuries later that night.
The explosion took place in an isolated single-storey building situated in the heart of a longan orchard, approximately 500 meters away from the nearest community. The incident unfolded in Ban Chai Ngam village, located in tambon Mae Waen in Phrao district.
According to officials, the explosion transpired while workers were engaged in the process of combining 75 kilograms of potassium chlorate with 50 kilograms of urea to create a mixture designed to stimulate longan flowering. The force of the blast devastated the building, as well as causing significant damage to two parked vehicles.
This unfortunate incident evokes memories of a similar powerful explosion involving potassium chlorate that occurred in San Patong district back in 1999.
