18-4-2024 (MADRID) A Singaporean national has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Audrey Fang, a 39-year-old Singaporean tourist who went missing from her hotel in the picturesque coastal town of Javea on April 9th.
According to reports, Fang’s lifeless body was discovered the day after her disappearance, approximately 150 kilometers away from her hotel, in a lorry park at Abanilla, a municipality in the Murcia region. The grisly scene painted a harrowing picture, with Fang’s body bearing over 30 stab wounds, leaving authorities initially unable to identify the victim. It was a passing individual, en route to a nearby restaurant for breakfast, who made the gruesome discovery along the RM-422 Fortuna-Pinoso road.
In a swift response, the Guardia Civil in Alicante province swiftly apprehended the suspect, another Singaporean national, on Tuesday. The individual has since been transferred to the custody of their counterparts in Murcia, as the investigation intensifies.
Shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Fang’s fateful trip, a family friend revealed to Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper that the 39-year-old had mentioned plans to meet someone she knew during her visit to Spain, though the identity of this individual remained undisclosed.
The case has now fallen under the jurisdiction of the Court of Instruction number 3 of Cieza (Murcia), with the suspect expected to face a judge within the next two days, as authorities seek to unravel the tragic chain of events.
Fang, who had traveled to Spain alone, had been enjoying a few days at a luxury hotel in Javea, with reservations spanning from April 4th to the 10th. Her family had last spoken to her on April 9th, the day she was last seen on CCTV footage exiting the hotel premises at around 8:45 pm, leaving her personal belongings behind in her room.
With plans to return to Singapore from Barcelona, Fang’s family grew increasingly concerned when she failed to board her scheduled flight and did not arrive as expected on April 12th. Prompted by her absence, they promptly filed a police report and sought assistance from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
