23-1-2024 (BANGKOK) Authorities have concluded their investigation into the tragic death of Thamolwan “Wanjeab” Chaloemchaisri, a popular internet personality and club DJ, who was fatally shot in the head by her boyfriend. The boyfriend was later discovered dead in an apparent suicide.
The 23-year-old Thamolwan was found lifeless in her apartment in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang area at 4:30 am on Monday. The initial scene indicated a possible suicide, as she had a gunshot wound above her left ear, and a handgun was found in her left hand, according to Pol Col Prasopchok Iampinij, the superintendent of the Huai Khwang police station.
However, irregularities in the case, including the fact that Thamolwan was right-handed, prompted further investigation, leading police to question additional individuals. Thamolwan’s boyfriend, identified as Thinh or “Hia Chat” (Brother Chat), emerged as the prime suspect after being seen leaving her apartment at 6:37 am on Saturday.
Upon reaching Thinh’s residence in the Sanam Bin Nam area of Nonthaburi, Rattanathibet police heard a gunshot and discovered Thinh, 41, lying on the floor. He succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation confirmed that Thinh was responsible for Thamolwan’s death, but the case was automatically suspended due to the suspect’s demise.
Police are now exploring the motive behind the crime, particularly whether Thinh’s actions were linked to substantial online gambling losses. Friends of the couple informed investigators that the losses amounted to at least one billion baht.
In a related development, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is conducting a separate inquiry into an assault on Thamolwan that occurred last November in Cambodia. Thamolwan was reportedly attacked by Thinh and another Thai national, as confirmed by Pol Col Prasopchok.
