11-6-2023 (BANGKOK) In a devastating accident early Sunday morning, a man and a woman, both Russian nationals, lost their lives after the car they were traveling in collided with a palm tree on the median strip of Sukhumvit road in Bang Lamung district.
The incident was reported to the Muang Pattaya police station around 5 am, according to Pol Capt Cholwit Athipansee, a duty investigator with the police. Promptly responding to the call, police, accompanied by medics and rescuers, hurried to the scene located on the Sattahip-bound side of Sukhumvit road, opposite Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 87 or Soi Nong Krabok in tambon Nong Prue.
Upon arrival, they discovered a severely damaged Bangkok-registered Toyota Altis that had collided forcefully with a palm tree on the median strip. The impact had caused extensive damage to the car, with its parts scattered across both sides of the road.
Employing hydraulic jacks, rescuers worked diligently to access the car and extract a man and a woman who were still alive at the time. Despite their best efforts, the two victims succumbed to their serious injuries later on. The woman was identified as Valeriia Khimich, 18, the driver of the vehicle, while the man was identified as Gleb Solovev, 23.
Since there were no eyewitnesses to the accident, the police carefully examined the scene and began reviewing footage from security cameras in the vicinity. Their aim is to establish the precise cause of the tragic crash.
