1-7-2023 (MUMBAI) In the early hours of Saturday, a devastating bus crash occurred in Maharashtra, India’s western state, resulting in the loss of at least 25 lives, according to authorities and police.
The ill-fated bus was en route from Nagpur to Pune when the incident transpired around 1:35 am on the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway. Tragically, the bus collided, leading to a catastrophic event as the diesel tank of the vehicle caught fire, as reported by local police to Reuters TV partner ANI.
The fire that engulfed the bus was the primary cause of the majority of fatalities, leaving a trail of devastation and sorrow.
Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed the grim toll of the incident in a Twitter post, confirming that 25 individuals lost their lives while eight others sustained injuries.
As news of the tragedy spread, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter separately, sharing their heartfelt condolences and expressing their sadness. They pledged their support to the families of each victim, announcing compensation of 700,000 Indian rupees (equivalent to US$8,500).
