31-3-2024 (YANGON) Tragedy struck Hmawbi Township in the Yangon region as three individuals, including two young children, lost their lives in a devastating explosion on Saturday, local authorities have confirmed.
The incident unfolded at approximately 4 p.m. local time, near a bus stop along the Yangon-Pyay Road in Hmawbi Township, according to an official from the Hmawbi Township administration office who spoke with Xinhua on Saturday.
The explosion, originating from a garbage heap adjacent to the bus stop, claimed the lives of a female waste picker and two children, the official reported.
This heartbreaking event adds to a series of nine explosions that have rocked the Yangon region between Wednesday and Saturday. These incidents have resulted in the tragic loss of four lives and left eight others injured, as reported by local law enforcement authorities.
