20-8-2024 (BANGKOK) A routine overnight bus journey from Bangkok to Hat Yai took a macabre turn when fellow travellers discovered that one of their number had passed away unnoticed during the trip. The incident, which occurred on a Sri Siam Transport coach, has left passengers and authorities alike in a state of shock.
The deceased, identified as 57-year-old Kingor Rodsawai from Songkhla province, was found lifeless in her aisle seat as the bus approached Ban Bolor in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Chien Yai district early Monday morning. The grim revelation came to light when a passenger seated by the window attempted to disembark, only to find their seatmate unresponsive.
According to police reports, the unsuspecting window-seat passenger made the chilling discovery upon realising that Rodsawai’s body was cold to the touch and showed no signs of breathing. The alarmed traveller promptly alerted the bus driver, who then contacted local authorities.
Deputy Superintendent Pol Capt Srayuth Tahanirat of Chien Yai police confirmed that the ill-fated journey had commenced on Sunday evening from Bangkok, with Hat Yai as its final destination. The bus had travelled through the night, with passengers oblivious to the tragedy unfolding in their midst.
Chien Yai police chief Pol Col Somporn Preutsawanitch provided further details, stating that a preliminary post-mortem examination conducted at Chiang Yai Hospital suggested a possible heart attack as the cause of death. He emphasised that there were no apparent signs of foul play or violence on the body.
“The family of the deceased has been notified and has expressed no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her passing,” Pol Col Somporn added. “They will be taking her remains home for appropriate religious rites.”
