13-1-2024 (SINGAPORE) A tragic incident occurred on the North-South Expressway in Melaka, Malaysia, as a tourist bus caught fire following an accident, resulting in the death of one individual and serious injuries to two others. The incident took place at 3:50 am on January 13 and has left authorities and the community in shock.
Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters Superintendent, Arshad Abu, identified the victim as Yafarah Taj Fakrudin Hussaini, a 17-year-old tourist from India. Unfortunately, Yafarah became trapped inside the burning bus after the accident occurred.
According to Superintendent Arshad, the tour bus was en route from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and was carrying a total of 28 passengers at the time of the incident. Among the seriously injured passengers are Peer Mohamed Kannudeen, a 69-year-old individual from the Kalakad municipality in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and Anissa Begum Fakrudin Hussaini, a 45-year-old resident of Chennai, India.
Anissa sustained third-degree burns as the bus was engulfed in flames due to a collision with a motorcycle. It is reported that the accident occurred when the motorcyclist allegedly fell off his bike, leading to the bus hitting the motorcycle and subsequently catching fire.
In addition to the two seriously injured passengers, two other individuals on the bus suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, the motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Haziq Hilmi Razali, managed to escape the incident unscathed.
Superintendent Arshad revealed that the deceased and the injured passengers are all family members. The injured individuals were promptly transported to Hospital Alor Gajah for medical treatment and further care.
