14-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a dramatic display of nature’s raw power, heavy rainfall in the Malaysian state of Perak has triggered massive water surges at two iconic waterfalls, transforming tranquil cascades into raging torrents. The Lata Kinjang and Lata Iskandar waterfalls, situated near the popular tourist destination of Cameron Highlands, have been transformed into awe-inspiring spectacles as relentless downpours since May 12 have caused rivers to swell and water to gush down with an overwhelming force.
Videos of the Lata Iskandar waterfall in its newly invigorated state have gone viral on social media, captivating audiences with the sheer magnitude of the water flow. The usually serene cascades have been replaced by a thundering deluge, as if nature itself has unleashed an untamed torrent upon the scenic landscape.
The Tapah fire department, upon arriving at the Lata Kinjang Forest Eco-Park on the morning of May 13, encountered a dramatic scene. Muddy waters surged through the rivers, their levels and speeds reaching dangerous proportions. While no casualties were reported, the situation underscored the potential risks posed by such intense natural phenomena.
Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the assistant director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations division, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. “It has been raining heavily in Kampar and Tapah since Sunday night,” he stated. “The Kampar River is still swollen to dangerous levels even on Monday morning, but there were no flash floods that required people to be evacuated.”
Highlighting the authorities’ vigilance, Sabarodzi added, “We are also monitoring the Lata Kinjang and Lata Iskandar waterfalls because of the heavy flowing water.” The department remains on high alert, closely observing the affected areas to ensure no untoward incidents occur.
