19-10-2024 (TOKYO) In a shocking incident that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, Tokyo police apprehended a 49-year-old man following an alleged arson attempt at the headquarters of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The brazen attack, which involved the use of makeshift incendiary devices, has sent ripples through the nation’s political landscape and raised concerns about security measures at key government installations.
According to police reports, the suspect arrived at the LDP headquarters in a van shortly before 6 a.m. local time. In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood action film, the man proceeded to hurl what authorities believe to be five or six Molotov cocktails towards the building. One of the improvised explosives struck a police vehicle, though swift action by emergency responders ensured that the resulting fire was quickly extinguished.

The assailant’s rampage did not end there. In a further alarming turn of events, he attempted to breach the perimeter of the Prime Minister’s office by ramming his vehicle into the protective fencing. Undeterred by this initial failure, the man then tried to lob what appeared to be a smoke bomb onto the grounds. However, alert police officers on duty managed to thwart this secondary attack.
Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle, law enforcement officials discovered a cache of approximately ten poly tanks and several unused firebombs, suggesting that the perpetrator may have been prepared for a more extensive assault.
