23-6-2023 (WASHINGTON) The United States Navy has reportedly detected signs of the possible implosion of the Titan submersible through underwater sound monitoring devices. The vessel disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean while undertaking an expedition to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, as revealed by a recent report in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday (Jun 22).
According to an unnamed senior official from the US Navy, the implosion was captured on a secret acoustic monitoring system specifically designed to identify submarines. Shortly after the Titan vanished on Sunday, the system recorded the occurrence of the implosion.
The official informed the Journal, “The US Navy conducted an analysis of the acoustic data and identified an abnormality consistent with either an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity where the Titan submersible was operating at the time communication was lost.”
The US Coast Guard, on Thursday, confirmed the discovery of wreckage from the submersible near the remnants of the Titanic, resting at a depth of 3,800 meters beneath the ocean’s surface.
This announcement brings an end to a multinational search-and-rescue operation that spanned four days. Officials informed the press that the analysis of the debris found on the seafloor indicated that it was consistent with the implosion of the submersible’s pressure chamber.
OceanGate Expeditions, the organization responsible for operating the submersible, has stated that the five individuals aboard the vessel are presumed to have lost their lives in the incident.
