21-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) 3 teenagers have been apprehended on suspicion of abetting an attempted abduction of a seven-year-old boy on December 12 in Johor Bahru.
The Johor Bahru South police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, disclosed that the teenagers, aged 15, 17, and 18, were taken into custody in Pontian at 5:40 pm on Wednesday (December 20).
In a statement issued on Thursday (December 21), ACP Raub announced that the teenagers would be remanded for four days, as per the order issued by Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid earlier in the day.
Earlier reports from ACP Raub revealed that a Chinese national, holding permanent resident status in Singapore, sustained serious injuries while attempting to thwart the kidnapping of his son by a group of men in Johor Bahru. Fortunately, the child remained unharmed during the incident.
The primary suspect, a 41-year-old believed to be the partner of the injured father, was apprehended in front of the Taman Pelangi police station at 8 pm on the day of the reported incident.
Raub disclosed that the suspect had allegedly intended to demand a ransom of RM300,000 (approx. S$85,654.95) for the victim’s release.
