25-4-2024 (BANGKOK) A veil of tension hangs over the campus of Thammasat University as authorities delve deeper into the shocking case of a third-year student who admitted to stabbing her younger boyfriend, a fellow student, leaving him seriously wounded. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday within the confines of a dormitory, has sent ripples of unease through the academic community.
The 23-year-old assailant, identified only as Ms. B, is alleged to have plunged a fruit knife into the neck of her 19-year-old freshman boyfriend, known solely as A, during a heated confrontation. Both students are enrolled in the prestigious Faculty of Science and Technology at the university.
According to police reports, the young man had visited his girlfriend with the intention of ending their relationship and returning the key card to the dormitory where they had been residing. However, Ms. B’s attempts to persuade him to reconsider were met with rejection, a development that allegedly fueled her rage, culminating in the violent attack.
The victim was swiftly rushed to Thammasat University Hospital, where doctors have described his condition as stable, despite the severity of his injuries.
In a disturbing twist, messages circulated on social media platforms alleged that Ms. B had been attending classes on the university’s Rangsit campus, despite having initially been charged with assault posing a threat to life. This revelation has purportedly instilled a sense of unease among the student body, prompting calls for swift action from the authorities.
Pol Col Wissanurak Prommet, deputy commander of the Pathum Thani police, has confirmed the assault charge leveled against Ms. B and disclosed that while she had initially been remanded in police custody, she was subsequently released on bail amounting to 100,000 baht.
As the investigation deepens, police are currently interviewing the victim in the hospital and awaiting details regarding his treatment before determining whether additional charges should be pressed against the assailant.
