16-8-2023 (BANGKOK) Paetongtarn ‘Ung Ing’ Shinawatra, the head of the Pheu Thai Family, has embarked on a journey to Dubai to accompany her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to consult an ophthalmologist. This step has been taken to address Thaksin’s medical concerns, as he continues to reside in Dubai, away from his homeland of Thailand.
The decision was conveyed by Ms. Paetongtarn herself through her Instagram account on Tuesday, where she posted a message regarding her father’s health. Accompanying her announcement was an Instagram story set to the backdrop of the song “Que Sera, Sera,” which aptly conveys the sentiment of embracing the unknown.
This recent trip to Dubai is a response to Thaksin’s prior statement on August 5, wherein he communicated his decision to postpone his anticipated return from self-imposed exile due to the imperative need for a comprehensive medical assessment.
Thaksin’s departure from Thailand occurred in 2008, shortly before he was convicted by the Supreme Court for assisting his then-wife, Khunying Potjaman Na Pombejra, in the acquisition of prime land in the Ratchadaphisek area at a discounted price during his tenure as prime minister. Thaksin, in a message posted on the platform formerly known as Twitter (now X), initially intended to return to Thailand by August 10. However, due to his medical requirements, this timeline has been extended by a few weeks.
