24-9-2023 (NEW YORK) Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has described his visit to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) as a success, signaling that the country is once again open to foreign investors.
Speaking to reporters after delivering a statement at the UNGA78 general debate at the UN Headquarters in New York, Prime Minister Thavisin highlighted the positive signals for foreign investment in Thailand. He noted that Thailand is ready to welcome both inbound and outbound investments, with several Thai companies prepared to invest in foreign nations.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Board of Investment to attract foreign investors to Thailand, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for their hard work.
Prime Minister Thavisin also emphasized Thailand’s commitment to apply for membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council, representing ASEAN for the 2025-2027 term. He highlighted the importance of Thailand’s role in managing issues related to the Myanmar crisis, given its extensive border with Myanmar and the challenges posed by the influx of refugees fleeing conflict.
During the UNGA78 event, the Prime Minister touched on various global concerns, including food security, climate change, global peace, and the sufficiency economy philosophy established by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great.
Regarding security matters, Prime Minister Thavisin emphasized Thailand’s commitment to peace and sustainable prosperity, stressing the country’s stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
