12-6-2023 (BANGKOK) Thailand’s election commission announced on Monday that it will initiate an investigation into Pita Limjaroenrat, the leading candidate for the prime ministerial position, dealing a fresh blow to his aspirations for the premiership.
The commission, responsible for monitoring elections, has established a special committee to examine whether Pita, whose Move Forward Party secured the highest number of seats in the recent election, meets the qualifications required to hold public office.
The probe comes as a significant setback to Pita’s political ambitions, raising questions about his eligibility and potentially impacting his chances of assuming the role of prime minister. The investigatory committee will thoroughly assess the relevant factors to determine the veracity of the allegations against him.
