28-12-2023 (BANGKOK) The Department of Tourism and Sports Economics, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in Thailand, has released the latest data on foreign tourist arrivals, revealing a notable increase in visitor numbers. From December 18 to 24, 2023, the country witnessed a total of 796,808 foreign tourists, marking a significant rise of 120,303 compared to the previous month. This represents a 16.60% increase, with an average daily influx of 113,830 tourists.
Among the various nationalities visiting Thailand, Malaysian tourists made up the largest group, reaching 149,409 individuals, indicating a month-on-month surge of 35.34%. They were followed by 96,662 Chinese tourists, representing a 7.16% increase. Russian tourists accounted for 47,071 visitors, marking a rise of 7.50%, while Korean tourists numbered 46,060, displaying a growth of 6.22%. Additionally, Indian tourists contributed 41,679 arrivals, reflecting a substantial increase of 12.03%.
The recent surge in tourist numbers can be attributed to the Christmas season and the European end-of-year cold season holidays, attracting more visitors from Malaysia and Europe. Among them, European tourists accounted for 197,987 individuals, showcasing a notable increase of 32,825 compared to the previous month. Consequently, the cumulative number of tourists from January 2023 to December 24, 2023, has now surpassed an impressive 27,252,488.
The top five countries in terms of cumulative tourist numbers are as follows:
- Malaysia – 4,439,480 visitors
- China – 3,418,732 visitors
- South Korea – 1,616,858 visitors
- India – 1,587,090 visitors
- Russia – 1,428,985 visitors
In addition to the rising tourist figures, Sudaywan, the Minister of Tourism and Sports in Thailand, disclosed that the National Tourism Administration of Thailand has planned an upcoming event called “Amazing Festive & Exclusive Trip in Thailand.” This event aims to enhance Thailand’s tourism image and boost travel confidence among tourists. To achieve this, the administration will invite renowned Chinese media and influential personalities to experience the beauty and attractions of Thailand. By leveraging the power of “soft power” and promoting “Meaningful Travel,” the event is anticipated to attract an estimated 3.5 million Chinese tourists to Thailand in the coming year, thereby stimulating the country’s economy.
