14-1-2024 (BANGKOK) The Thai government has revealed plans to introduce a dedicated visa for foreign tourists eager to visit Thailand to engage in Muay Thai training. This visa would allow them to extend their stay for up to 90 days, providing ample time to complete their Muay Thai courses.
Pimol Srivikorn, an adviser to the prime minister and chairman of the government’s subcommittee for driving sports-related activities, announced that this decision was reached during a meeting on Friday. The move aims to position Muay Thai as one of Thailand’s influential “soft powers.”
Currently, foreigners holding a tourist visa can stay in Thailand for a maximum of 60 days. However, with the proposed special visa designed for Muay Thai enthusiasts, their stay duration would be extended to 90 days, facilitating a more immersive learning experience.
Srivikorn highlighted that the government intends to establish a standardized proficiency level for Muay Thai classes. Additionally, certification requirements for Muay Thai instructors will be implemented to ensure the accurate dissemination of this national fighting art worldwide.
