26-11-2025 (BANGKOK) Thailand’s government has officially unveiled the proposed 5.7-kilometer street circuit layout for the inaugural Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bangkok, with the race scheduled to begin in 2028. The cabinet has approved a substantial bid, estimated to cost over $1.23 billion for a five-year hosting contract (2028-2032), signaling a major commitment to bringing world-class motorsports to the capital.
The proposed circuit will transform the streets around the Chatuchak district into a high-speed track. The route is designed to run through key public areas, encompassing parts of Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, Chatuchak Market, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Queen Sirikit Park. This choice of location aims to leverage existing transport links, including the BTS and MRT lines, ensuring accessibility for the hundreds of thousands of spectators expected to attend.
Hosting an F1 street race is viewed by the Thai government as a strategic move to boost tourism, enhance national prestige, and drive infrastructure and technology development. While the bid still requires final approval from Formula One Group and the FIA, the focus will now shift to the intricate process of track preparation, which involves resurfacing public roads to meet the stringent Grade 1 standard for F1 racing.
