14-11-2023 (BANGKOK) Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol revealed on Tuesday that Thailand welcomed 23,241,338 foreign tourists from January 1 to November 12 this year, contributing a staggering revenue of 981.69 billion baht to the kingdom.
The Economics Tourism and Sports Division of the ministry’s permanent secretariat provided insights into the top five nationalities visiting Thailand during this period:
- Malaysia: 3,824,445
- China: 2,902,462
- South Korea: 1,375,958
- India: 1,354,712
- Russia: 1,170,203
Minister Sudawan highlighted that during the week of November 6-12, 611,121 foreigners entered Thailand, averaging approximately 87,303 tourists daily. This marked a notable 9.61% increase compared to the previous week’s daily average of 53,567, with Sudawan attributing the surge to the Diwali holidays in Malaysia and Singapore. The number of Malaysian arrivals rose to 49,919, reflecting a 28.65% increase from the previous week.
Anticipating a further influx in the coming weeks due to increased flights and colder winter conditions in tourists’ home countries, Minister Sudawan expressed optimism. She also mentioned that initiatives like visa fee waivers for tourists from China, Kazakhstan, and India, along with extended visas for Russians, are expected to contribute to a higher number of tourists before the year-end.
