18-6-2024 (BANGKOK) The Royal Thai Police (RTP) announced a series of significant arrests and seizures over the past two weeks. Assistant national police chief Pol Lt Gen Samran Nualma revealed on Monday that 21 suspects were apprehended in 10 drug-related cases between May 31 and June 11, marking a substantial blow to the illicit narcotics trade.
The intensive operations yielded a staggering haul, with authorities confiscating 911 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, a staggering 36 million methamphetamine pills, and 5.16 kilograms of heroin. These seizures represent a major triumph in the ongoing battle against the trafficking of illicit substances into the Kingdom.
Pol Lt Gen Gen Khirisak Tantinvachai, the commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), underscored the remarkable progress made in recent months, stating that the number of arrests over the past eight months has nearly doubled compared to the previous year. This surge in enforcement efforts reflects the unwavering commitment of Thai authorities to disrupt and dismantle the intricate networks responsible for facilitating the flow of illicit drugs across borders.
Tantinvachai further emphasized that all of the cases involved drugs trafficked from abroad, highlighting the transnational nature of the narcotics trade and the urgent need for international cooperation in combating this global crisis. In response, Thailand has intensified immigration and border security measures, leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to prevent the entry of illicit substances into the country.
The Thai authorities are not resting on their laurels, however, as Tantinvachai revealed that another large group of suspected drug traffickers is currently under close monitoring.
