19-10-2023 (BANGKOK) A Thai woman’s desire for mookata, a delicious Thai-style barbecue, took an unexpected turn when she suddenly went into labour while enjoying her meal at a local eatery. In a humorous twist, she made an unusual request to the restaurant staff, asking them not to clear her table in case she returned to finish her half-eaten food.
The incident was reported by Thai newspaper Khaosod, who shared the amusing plea made by the woman to the service staff. The restaurant’s owner, Yuthaphum Kaewkhem, known as Boom, later took to Facebook to recount the comical situation in a viral post on Monday.
The staff promptly informed Boom that one of their customers was experiencing labour pains, with her water having broken. They were in the process of making arrangements for her transportation to the hospital, as reported by The Thaiger.
Despite the urgency of the situation, the expectant mother expressed her desire to return to the restaurant and finish her meal, stating that she had only taken a few bites. She requested that her table not be cleared yet, in case she didn’t give birth immediately upon reaching the hospital.
The owner, taken aback by the unusual request, quickly declined and instead made a generous offer. Boom proposed that the customer be informed that she would receive free meals for the next nine months as a gesture of goodwill. He urged her to focus on delivering her baby for the time being.
In a subsequent Facebook post the following day, Boom shared several heartwarming photos of himself with the mother and her newborn in the hospital. Sin Chew Daily reported that the woman was a regular patron of the restaurant and had been particularly craving mookata that day. The baby’s arrival came as a surprise, as the estimated due date was still ten days away.
On Wednesday, Boom posted a video of his visit to the hospital, where he presented the new mother with food, a mookata grill pan, and other utensils.
The heartwarming story amused netizens, who flooded the comments section with well-wishes for the mother and her baby. One netizen, as reported by The Thaiger, wrote, “Pregnant women do have their cravings… It’s funny, but also heartwarming in a way.”
