30-6-2024 (TAIPEI) A Charles & Keith store located in the iconic Taipei 101 shopping complex became the scene of a shocking and violent incident on Monday afternoon. A female customer, identified as a Thai national, unleashed a rampage inside the store, smashing bags and display furniture while also attacking employees who attempted to intervene.
The chaotic events unfolded before the eyes of horrified onlookers, with one witness capturing the disturbing scene on video and sharing it on the social media platform Threads. The footage depicts a long-haired woman wearing a pink, body-hugging dress and bare feet, furiously hurling bags and furniture onto the floor of the Charles & Keith store.
As store staff bravely tried to intervene and stop the woman’s destructive rampage, they found themselves becoming targets of her aggression. The woman then briefly stepped outside, grabbed a high-heeled shoe, and began striking nearby pillars with it before re-entering the store and engaging in a confrontation with the employees, leaving bystanders in shock and disbelief.
According to reports from ETtoday, the Taipei City Police have identified the woman as a Thai national, although her exact identity remains unconfirmed due to a lack of identification documents. Medical professionals who responded to the scene noted that the woman was unable to communicate effectively due to language barriers, further complicating the situation.
The woman’s heightened state of agitation and propensity towards violence prompted authorities to take immediate action, transferring her to a medical facility for treatment and evaluation. The incident has left the store’s employees shaken and raised concerns about their safety in the workplace.
Following the incident, representatives from Charles & Keith, known for its trendy and affordable bags, assessed the extent of the damage sustained by the store. Preliminary estimates suggest losses amounting to approximately NT$5,000 (around US$180). The company is currently weighing its options, including the possibility of pursuing legal action and seeking compensation for the damages, pending further communication with their headquarters.
