30-1-2024 (BANGKOK) In a bizarre incident in Thailand, a woman found herself stranded in the middle of a suspension bridge after blindly following her GPS instructions. The incident occurred on Sunday evening (Jan 28) when the woman’s white Honda Sedan became stuck on the Wiang Thong Bridge. The bridge, originally designed for pedestrian use, proved to be unsuitable for vehicles due to its narrow surface.
Makun Inchan, a passerby who witnessed the incident, immediately called for emergency assistance upon hearing the woman’s cries for help. The bridge, stretching 120 meters long, had one of the car’s front left wheels wedged in a gap. Thankfully, rescuers were able to retrieve the car using two tractors without causing any damage.
The unidentified female driver revealed that she was using the GPS to navigate her way to Sung Men, a place she was unfamiliar with, as she intended to visit a friend. She solely relied on the GPS directions without paying attention to her surroundings. She expressed her fear of the car potentially falling into the Yom River, which runs beneath the bridge, prompting her to seek help by getting out of the vehicle.
Makun, the vigilant passerby, called for authorities to install warning signs near the bridge to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
