25-11-2025 (BANGKOK) A 65-year-old Thai woman, who had been presumed dead by her family, was discovered alive inside her coffin just moments before her planned cremation ceremony at a Buddhist temple outside of Bangkok on Sunday. Staff at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham in Nonthaburi were astonished when they heard knocking and faint movements coming from the sealed coffin, prompting them to open it, as reported by Khaosod.
The woman, identified as Chonthirot, had reportedly been bedridden for two years before becoming unresponsive two days prior. Her brother, believing she had passed away, transported her body approximately 500 kilometers from Phitsanulok province for a free cremation service at the temple. Upon opening the coffin, temple workers found her moving slightly, a discovery the family is calling a miracle.
Medical personnel dispatched to the scene determined the woman was suffering from severe hypoglycemia (critically low blood sugar), rather than cardiac or respiratory failure, which may have mimicked death. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, with the temple’s abbot assuring the family that all medical expenses would be covered.
