18-12-2023 (BANGKOK) In a joint announcement at the Technology Crime Investigation Police Headquarters, police revealed the successful arrest of a gang involved in editing and distributing obscene images through the VK application.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Niphon disclosed that the investigation uncovered the victimization of young actresses and prominent individuals across various industries. The criminals manipulated images to create nude photos for sale on social media, causing significant harm and violating the rights of the individuals involved. Prompt action was taken to investigate the case, leading to the identification of the source: an individual posting under the account name “Please cut it out for me,” with an estimated 120,000 followers on VK.
The suspect solicited editing work, specifically requesting nude images of others, and operated a VIP group named “Tailor community,” offering AI programs for editing explicit content. Payments were accepted through the True Money Wallet system using red envelopes. The members who made payments gained access to edited nude photos created using an AI system.
Following a financial trail examination, arrest warrants were issued for two suspects associated with the VK application account and group. Both were found to be contractors for editing nude photos and renting AI programs for online editing services. The arrested individuals include Mr. Thanapat, 24, and Mr. Phasit, 39. Items seized during the arrest included a PC computer, a Samsung mobile phone, and a wireless router.
Panadda Wongphudee, a former Miss Thailand, also came forward to report the incident and commend the authorities for their swift action. Panadda revealed that more than 30 celebrities, including herself, had fallen victim to similar attacks. Urging others to report such incidents and not succumb to these actions, he emphasized the need for legal action against the offenders.
