21-10-2024 (BANGKOK) Thai authorities have arrested a man suspected of committing a brutal murder in Uthai Thani province. The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Mr Sangwien, was apprehended in a rented room in the Bangkok-Thonburi area after fleeing from the scene of the crime.
The gruesome discovery was made on 21 October 2024, when the body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be around 30 years old, was found in a cassava plantation in Lansak District, Uthai Thani Province. The victim, described as having red hair, had been strangled to death and her body callously disposed of in a secluded area.
According to investigators, the woman’s body was found with a shirt covering her head, concealing her face. A black shirt had been used as the murder weapon, and a red rope was employed to bind the victim’s neck and legs. The body showed signs of being dragged approximately 20 meters from the roadside to its final resting place in the plantation.
The horrific crime is believed to have taken place around 3:00 PM on 20 October. Initially, local authorities were unable to identify the deceased or determine her origin. However, a breakthrough came when CCTV footage captured images of a suspicious van in the vicinity of the crime scene.
In a coordinated effort, the Uthai Thani Provincial Police Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Thanyaburi Police Investigation Unit and officers from Samranrat Police Station, launched a manhunt for the suspect. Their diligent work led them to a rented room in Bangkok where Mr Sangwien was hiding.
The suspect was subsequently arrested in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province. He was immediately taken to Samranrat Police Station for intensive questioning before legal proceedings were initiated.
