4-2-2025 (BEIJING) Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to undertake a landmark four-day official visit to China next week, marking the beginning of celebrations for half a century of diplomatic relations between the two Asian nations.
The visit, scheduled from 5th to 8th February, comes at the personal invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and represents a significant milestone in Sino-Thai relations. Ms Shinawatra’s itinerary includes high-level meetings with China’s top brass, including a courtesy call with President Xi Jinping.
The Thai Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Premier Li and Zhao Leji, who heads the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. These discussions are expected to strengthen the strategic partnership between Bangkok and Beijing, with a particular focus on economic cooperation and regional stability.
In a move to bolster commercial ties, Ms Shinawatra will also convene with prominent business figures from both nations. The economic dialogue comes at a crucial time as both countries seek to deepen their trade relationships in the post-pandemic era.
A highlight of the Premier’s visit will be her attendance at the opening ceremony of the ninth Asian Winter Games 2025 in Harbin, underscoring the cultural and sporting bonds between the two nations.
This diplomatic mission kicks off the Golden Jubilee celebration marking 50 years since Thailand and China established formal diplomatic relations. Sources close to the foreign ministry indicate that the visit aims to cement political ties and foster greater cultural understanding between the two peoples.
