26-11-2023 (BANGKOK) Thai LionAir is set to launch an investigation into a harrowing incident on Friday, where one of its aircraft’s engines caught fire shortly after takeoff from Don Mueang Airport.
Sources revealed that the flight departed from the airport at 11:10 am, reaching an altitude of 6,000 feet when both passengers and crew observed unsettling vibrations. A concerned passenger alerted cabin crew after witnessing sparks emanating from the engine under the right wing. In response, the pilot promptly shut down the affected engine and initiated a safe return to Don Mueang Airport. The aircraft successfully landed at 12:05 pm, with some passengers experiencing fainting and vomiting during the alarming episode. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and passengers commended the captain for the secure landing.
A passenger captured the unsettling moments and shared a video on TikTok under the account “@ben_benga,” where the pilot engaged in a conversation with a passenger who reported the sparks. The pilot expressed uncertainty about whether the issue originated from a bird strike or a technical malfunction. An official investigation is planned to ascertain the cause of the incident, as announced by the pilot.
