6-11-2023 (BANGKOK) A Thai content creator has made headlines after paying a man to deliver chicken rice from Singapore to Thailand. The man, originally thought to be a GrabFood delivery rider, was not affiliated with the company. The content creator paid him 10,000 baht (approximately S$381) for the delivery, which included a flight from Singapore to Thailand.
The entire journey was documented by the rider, who started by purchasing the chicken rice in Singapore’s Chinatown before taking a flight back to Thailand on the same day. Once the delivery was complete, the TikTok user and the alleged delivery rider shared the chicken rice.
Grab clarified that they do not offer such delivery services and had no connection to the deliveryman, who was not registered with the company.
However, the story took an unexpected turn when Thai content creator @domteamwork revealed that he was behind the viral stunt. He initiated the project by asking a rider to pick up chicken rice from Singapore and return to Thailand with it, offering the rider S$381 for the task.
The rider accepted the challenge and embarked on a journey that included a flight to Singapore, taking the MRT in the Lion City, and even briefly interacting with a fellow passenger on the train. He purchased the chicken rice from Chinatown Complex, returned to Changi Airport Terminal 4, and caught a flight back to Thailand.
Upon returning to Thailand, the content creator and the rider reunited, and the ordered meal was shared, though its temperature after the journey was uncertain. The video quickly went viral on TikTok, garnering 10.8 million views, along with attention from various news sites.
The rider mentioned that the plane tickets cost 6,000 baht (approximately S$228.75), not including other expenses. He was unsure if the trip was worth the payment, but when asked if he would make the same trip for 20,000 baht (approximately S$762), he expressed his willingness to do so.
