10-6-2024 (MANILA) Tensions escalated in front of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ in Sasa, Davao City early Monday as more than 100 police officers from various Philippine National Police units arrived, reportedly to serve a warrant against its controversial leader, Apollo Quiboloy, who faces abuse and trafficking charges in courts in the city and Pasig City.
While it remains unclear whether the police intended to serve a search warrant or an arrest warrant, the situation quickly intensified as supporters of the fugitive pastor gathered at the entrance gate, calling for “justice” and defending Quiboloy from the allegations leveled against him. One supporter even used a megaphone to voice their support for the embattled leader.
Quiboloy and his followers have vehemently denied the allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking, claiming that these accusations were made by disgruntled former members with personal grudges against the religious group. Quiboloy has also refuted allegations of rape, asserting that his female followers compete for the opportunity to be with him.
Despite the tense atmosphere, PNP personnel, including some in helicopters, were able to gain entry into the KOJC compound. However, the police have yet to provide an update on their findings or the status of the warrant’s service.
Quiboloy, who once served as a spiritual adviser to former President Rodrigo Duterte, has not been seen in public since courts issued warrants for his arrest.
