4-2-2025 (MANILA) A 16-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a devastating accident when his motorcycle crashed before being run over by a 16-wheeler lorry along Circumferential Road in Barangay San Roque, Antipolo City, late Monday evening.
The fatal incident occurred shortly after 10 PM when the unlicensed teenage rider, a resident of Barangay Sta. Ana in Taytay, Rizal, was returning home after dining with friends.
According to an eyewitness who requested anonymity, the motorcycle was travelling at considerable speed before the accident. “The rider was moving quite fast. After passing me, the motorcycle began to wobble uncontrollably until it crashed. The impact separated the rider from his motorcycle, throwing him into the opposite lane where he was struck by the rear wheels of the passing lorry,” the witness recounted.
The witness added that the heavy goods vehicle continued for several metres before being alerted to the accident and brought to a halt.
The lorry driver, who was transporting 36 tonnes of corn from Pasig to Teresa, Rizal, claimed he had initially attempted to avoid what he thought was a minor collision. “I tried to swerve away. I wasn’t aware I had hit anyone until later. I was ascending while he was descending. When he fell, he rolled towards the rear wheels of my trailer bed,” the driver explained.
Police investigations revealed that the deceased rider was operating the motorcycle without a valid licence. The victim’s cousin, Jeric Amoranto, expressed their family’s grief, stating, “It’s painful; his appearance was barely recognisable. We appeal to those responsible to take accountability for what happened.”
The lorry driver, now in custody at the Antipolo Component City Police Station, offered his remorse to the bereaved family. “I sincerely apologise. This was never intentional. As someone whose own child was once involved in a similar accident, I humbly ask the family for forgiveness,” he said.
Authorities have confirmed that the driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and homicide.
