14-3-2024 (SINGAPORE) A Trans-cab taxi driver finds himself in hot water after allegedly attacking a passenger with a test pen following a disagreement over drop-off locations.
The incident unfolded at a parking lot near Block 107 Bedok North Road at approximately 6:30 pm on Tuesday (March 12), as reported by Shin Min Daily News.
En route from Hougang to Bedok, a family of three discovered they had provided the wrong destination and requested an additional stop at Block 95 Bedok North Avenue 4 to drop off their child first.
A brief investigation revealed that both locations are in close proximity, with an estimated travel time of seven minutes by car.
According to reports, the taxi driver initially agreed to the request without any extra charge but ultimately drove the passengers to the initially specified destination.
This led to a confrontation between the driver and the family.
Police confirmed the arrest of a 69-year-old man on charges of voluntarily causing harm with a dangerous weapon.
A 39-year-old man sustained minor lacerations but declined hospital conveyance after assessment by paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Accompanying the injured man were a woman in her 30s and a young boy approximately eight years old, as reported by Shin Min.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing.
Trans-cab, the taxi operator, are currently attempting to contact the taxi driver and will provide full cooperation to the police in their inquiries.
The operator emphasized that drivers are obligated to transport passengers to their intended destinations, barring accidents or breakdowns.
“We will not hesitate to terminate the service of the driver, and we will continue to remind our drivers to provide excellent service to the public,” they stated.
