28-6-2023 (TAIPEI) In a recent Facebook post on 27th June, Taiwanese singer Tina Chou, also known as Da Ya, accused television host Charles “Blackie” Chen of sexually harassing her during a work trip to Hong Kong in 2012. Chou, who gained fame as a member of the girl group Blackie’s Teenage Club and served as an assistant host on Chen’s TV show, Blackie’s Teenage Club, made the serious allegations, sparking controversy in the Taiwanese entertainment industry.
According to Chou, Chen allegedly entered her hotel room and attempted to sexually assault her during their trip. She claims that she managed to fend him off by physically resisting his advances, and he eventually left her room after telling her to “kiss my mouth.” Chen and his wife, Taiwanese singer Christine Fan, have since issued a joint statement in response to Chou’s allegations, announcing their decision to file a civil lawsuit against her in order to protect their reputation.
In their lawsuit, Chen and Fan are seeking a total of NT$10 million (approximately HK$2.52 million) in compensation, with each party requesting NT$5 million. They are also demanding that Chou publicly apologize on social media and display the apology as a pinned post for three days. Chou’s manager has stated that they are currently in the process of understanding the situation and will respond at a later time.
Chou’s accusations have sent shockwaves through the Taiwanese entertainment industry, with many showing support for her on social media. It is important to note that this is not the first time Chen has faced allegations of sexual harassment, as other women have previously come forward with similar claims against him.
Chou’s allegations have brought attention to the issue of sexual harassment within the entertainment industry and the challenges faced by individuals speaking out against powerful figures. While she has received both support and criticism for her decision to come forward, some have questioned why she waited until now to reveal her allegations.
Chen has vehemently denied Chou’s accusations and expressed his intention to take legal action to defend his reputation. Both he and his wife have expressed disappointment in Chou’s public accusations, asserting that they have always treated her with respect and kindness.
As a prominent figure in the Taiwanese entertainment industry, Chen has hosted various TV shows and events throughout his career. He is also recognized for his philanthropic endeavors and involvement in charitable initiatives.
